Title: Damp Carpet Passenger Footwell.
Post by allenjames on Oct 29th, 2005, 3:45pm
Had the car two days now and have noticed the windscreen steams up when you first start the car.

After driving from Solihull to Salisbury today, I noticed drops of water on the rubber mat in the passenger footwell.

Is there an air-con drain tube in this area ?

There was no rain on the trip, so its not water coming in from outside.

Any advice appreciated before I hunt the drip.

I guess I should have looked at the fault page first.

Other posters have pin pointed a leaking heater matrix  as the culprit for soggy  carpets, an expensive and  fiddly job.

Here's hoping  it's the easier unblocking  drain hole option.

Allen,
Yes, that's most likely to be the cause. If the heater matrix is leaking you'd notice a strong 'curry' smell, and there'll be coolant on the carpet rather than clear water.
You'll find the nearside ac drain is most likely the culprit - and early cars have just the one tube, not two.

Also check the battery shelf drains too. They're tucked behind the insulation panel and easy to miss, but they're essential to keep the shelf dry or water can work its way down the electrical connections through the upper bulkhead.

Thanks for the advice.

Its definately not coolant - now if this rain stops today, I can clean the valve thing out.
