Whenever i use the auto function on the heater,9 out of 10 times the blower doesnt work.its fine if i manually turn the blower switch to a higher speed,although i notice the windscreen doesnt clear anywhere near as quickly as any other car i have owned.Is this common?

It will not blow much air until the car has warmed up.....its all in the hand book which explains it all.

Also you can use the de-ice switch, it does miracles ;)

which one is the de-ice switch?

I guess he's referring to the heated front screen. Switch is together with the heated rear window switch on the right of the climate control/aircon panel.Its here http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/handbook022.gif.
