Title: Scorpio 2,9 -94
Post by Pier on Nov 3rd, 2005, 10:43am
Hello and thanks for a realy nice web page about Ford Scorpio.Have looked around the net and this is one of the better places for sure. The reason for me to be a member here is natuarly that i have a Scorpio. Not one but three!.One 2,0-88,one 2,9 12v -90 and the last one a 2,9 12v -94 sedan as we cal these four doors with normal trunk in Sweden. The -90 model have gone more than 60 000 Swedish miles and just ceeps on going.Great cars with a lot of power and comfort for less money but they have some problems with the quality sometimes.

The problem i have started with the2,9 12v -94 automatic model. It starts realy good and runs properly for a few miles and then it starts acting realy weird.Betwen 40-70miles p/h it starts to staling like it neded some more fuel.If i touch the gas gently it usualy stals and act like it was choking itself.I have changed everything in the high voltage system from distributor, rotor arm,ht leads, spark plugs and ignition coil. Was reading about some Scorpio owners who was having some problems with the fuel pressure regulator but my car starts properly even when its warm but sometimes act the same after hot engine starting as when i drive in 40-70 miles p/h.Do the problem maybe help if i clean or change the throttle position sensor!?.In Sweden we dont have the egr valve and the airflow meters the same way as in the Haynes manual so these parts i cant clean when they dont are there ha ha .... Its a realy anoying problem when you could drive on and on in the town in slow speed and on the highway in high speed but when you have to drive in the normal speed here in sweden it just act like it was staling.Checked the sparkplugs and they was white as new ones when the car have droven many miles. This have never happend on my other Scorpio 2,9!?.The co was 0.0 when i last tested it!.Could it be some cind of fuel starvation or am i wrong!?.Thanks for any help and have a nice day out there on the road!.Pier   ???

Cleaning the ICV and the associated parts will help. the IV can cause the problems you state and although your car is known in the UK as a granda Scorpio and in the mainland Europe as a Scorpio.. Try the main gs-oline site for further help, as suggested.

Pier,
I had several 12V model Granadas, as we called them here, and I experienced exactly the same symptom as you describe. The feeling of hesitation in mid range as if it was fuel starvation I found was caused by the Throttle Position Sensor, (TPS).  I found that it wears over the same part of the quadrant and when the EECIV loses the TPS position it messes up the fuelling table.  One one Granada I had I had to change the TPS twice in 3 years!

If you have an accurate digimeter you can test the resistance of the TPS both for smoothness and accuracy, and my guess would be that, particularly as you have changed everything else!

Welcome to the Forum  ;)

Thank you al wery much for the help!. ;D When i get some confused over the name of the car i natuarly wonder if anybody knows why the car have different name in different countries!?.Why do they ceep on caling it Granada when i thought it died with the older car body and are there some luxury car over there who only got the name Scorpio!?.I love these cars and sadly Ford killed these comfortable cars for the ugly Mondeo i heard. One more reason to the death i can imagine was the look on the last Scorpio when people here in Sweden told me how in gods name somebody could do this to a nice car like this.Froggeyed and with a back who locked like a overbaked bread.Wath was they thinking about on Ford the day they did this. The creator was probably sent to Sibiria i gues ha ha ..... The cars get older an older so wath to do the day they are to old to get together, drive Volvo, never ever!.Yes i know one who like the new model and thats my girlfriend who thinks it looks (CUTE)!!!.Wath ........ did i reply. These cars should look diplomatic and heavy, not (CUTE).She replied with this,i dont care wath you think,it is still (CUTE)!.
Anyway,Going to try change or clean the parts you have sugested and thank you wery much for the help!. ;D
