Title: Cossie Ultima AutoBox No Gear Sellection
Post by Zirk on Nov 6th, 2005, 7:14pm
Hi Guys, first off Im a Newbie so be gentle but wot a great site keep it up!,

Ok hears my Problem, Ive got a N reg 2.9 24v Cos. which I took off the road about 6 months ago due to new job in London (couldn’t afford the Jungle Juice) Having want to get it back on the Road again I started preparing it, water, oil, tyre pressure etc, Jumped the Battery and to my surprise it started first time, run her for a while and to check weather the Brakes were seized selected drive moved forward about 1 foot and back again in reverse, no problems, being quite pleased with it all, I decided to Unhook the battery and treat it to a good Charge for a Day or two.

Ok, so Battery's back in fully charged, Start Her again, starts first time, Select Drive.... Nothing, No Thumbs, Clumps or anything, Tried Reverse, Nothing, Start moving the Selector Back, Forward, Park, Nothing, no Hint off doing anything.

The only thing I have noticed is the selector moves quite freely; although I haven’t driven the car for a while I do remember the Selector being quite stiff while driving.

Now Im starting to think that the Selector has come away, broke or popped off to the actual Gearbox or something, as it WILL Start in any Gear or Park and Neutral which tells me its stuck in Neutral as the car can be Pushed (after 3 Shredded Wheat’s).

Now, I may answered my own question here, But having read on your Site about Pringles, Maps, and all these wonderful electrical Problems (ie has taken the Battery out, done something) I thought I'd Ask you Guy's, before parting with my Cash getting it towed in to My Local Garage.

Any help or advice would be Great.

Thanks Chris.

I think you have an idea what it is ;)

It sounds like one of the clips has come off the linkage & the linkage has fell apart. Get a clip from Ford (very cheap) & get the car high enough so you can slide under & have a look. Make sure it's safe before you slide under ;D
You may have to remove the heat shields.

You might be lucky and only need to  remove the  centre console  to get at  the  faulty  selector   linkage.
