Today when I was removing the thermostat - I experienced a problem.

One of the three bolts broke of (the bolt head) leaving the rest of the part in the tapping. d**n. The screw must have been old and rusty..

Do any of you know how to remove the rest of the screw - any good advise..?

Small drill, drill small strasight hole and then use a stud extractor, but if its that rusted in then it might have to be completely drilled out and then re-tapped with a larger bolt!

If there is still some bolt sticking out then there are special grips which can remove studs, which it what it will be with no head. I have used a small stilson pipe spanner for this purpose as the more pressure yopu exert them the tighter it grips.

Try welding another bolt to the broken bit, you will need electric welder to do it, residual heat helps, works every time. bit awkward if its broken off below the surface though.

Before trying to remove soak in releasing oil as long as posible.Something like Duck oil.

I have nothing further to add on the subject, a bit of heat, lube, and depending on if you can grab it or not, maybe a spot of weld, or drill it out, and re tap it...

well thats my tuppence worth, now back to rebuilding my fusebox....

Allright..

Of course there isn´t enough space for drilling the bolt.. unless I remove the cooler system..

Maybe I will try to heat up the bolt.. and then some (more) WD40..

As an optimist, you could see if it holds with just the two good bolts and lashings of gasket sealant ;)

Unfortunatly it doesn´t ..thought of that solution as well..
