Title: Strange Alarm Remote.
Post by allenjames on Nov 9th, 2005, 1:29pm
Another problem has reared its head.

I have 2 remotes, one new and one that has been used since the car was new.

The buttons on the used ones were getting very slow to react so I have coated them in conductive paint on the pads.

The new remote will program fine as long as the old remote is no where near the car.

The old remote wont program at all.

Should I give up on this old remote and buy another ?

Allen,

I wouldn't give up on it yet. It appears the remotes themselves are well built and don’t tend to give much trouble at all. The problem most people have are the buttons that contact the PCB. While silver paint/tin foil or undersides of old TV remote control buttons may fix the problem, some only work for a while then start to give trouble again.

Ford will not sell the rubber buttons separately. I'm investigating some early model fords remotes here in the US. While the frequency's on the US Ford remotes are different, the rubber keypads that sit on top of the Printed Circuit Boards are the same. Only difference I can see is the Boot release button is orange in colour and has the word TRUNK written across it. Small price to pay though if they can be had cheap and fix the problem!

Kind Regards

I tried the new remote keypad in the old remote and still no joy.

I think the remote itself has given up.

any other ideas ?
