Title: no headlights or wiper sweep
Post by invernessguy on Nov 9th, 2005, 4:39pm
hello, i have just completed a rebuild of my main fusebox, as i suspected it was causing faults.

The faults were as follows

no dash lights, or tail lights, however, they came back on, but then i lost headlights, and the wiper single sweep... (they work normally, but wont park if i do a single sweep), i also have no side, or fog lamps, although the indicators are working fine?

everything else on the car is working normally.

I rebuilt the fusebox, and i found very little moisture inside, and no corrosion.

where do i start looking for the problem now???

yes mate, checked and rechecked now, i think it must be the main loom somewhere?

donnie..
not sure about the loom to be honest,if all you have done is remove/clean the fuse box,i'm guessing the problem lies there,if all multiplugs/conections are fine,i reckon the problem lies with a bad conection on a relay or a fuse........
i know you say you have checked/double checked, but i cant see the problem being anywhere else if nothing has been disturbed... :-/.........

the problem was there before i did the fusebox craig, and the only reason i put myself through the grief of rebuilding it was to cure the problems which are still present  :'(

On the 'Fault finding' page the headlight switch and in particular, one pin,is mentioned. Have you checked the fuel cut off switch?. There have been a number of posts where this has caused various electrical gremlins. Good luck,

Sorry for bringing it up again but are the two round pins at the far end of the multiplug actually located into the slots they are supposed to?
I had this on mine with the exact same symptoms as you have.
the plug looks and feels as if its on properly but it has to be slotted down and under to allow these pins to locate...before the far side can be closed and clipped on

have tried cleaning pin 15, which is apparently the one that gives problems, but i have dash lights, and tail lights? All my problems seem to be in the front of the vehicle, its too dark now to do much more tonight, but i think i will have to give up and hand it over to the garage  :'(

im afraid i am not too sure what im looking for, and where to look for it!

If someone said, check pin this or that for this voltage, i could do it, but without guidance im afraid im lost!

a very sad donnie

The fuel cut off switch is easy to check. Look here http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/handbook116.gif.

thanks guys for all your help in this problem, if i had given up and left it with the garage tomorrow, it would have cost me a fortune!

And i suppose i now know that my main fusebox is ok  ;D even though i wish i hadnt touched it

Good result,  but  from your initial post  I would have suspected the headlight  switch from the outset,  it's  so obvious,  what possessed you to strip down the fusebox?

Donnie, put down that claymore, I was only kidding, honest! ;D

thanks craig, i would appreciate that! asap, if thats not too much to ask mate!

as for you mr floppy....  well hindsight is a wonderfull thing, and when the dash and back lights went off, yes i did consider it, but then they came back on, and headlights went off... and along with the headlights went the wiper sweep.... still havent got that working yet!

craig, i have pm'd you my address, if you could send it to me tomorrow, 1st class?

thanks again to you all guys... i was tearing my hair out over this

The wipers don't park up in the correct place, stop just about anywhere is that right?

If so there is a contact in the motor that stops the wipers in the correct place, you have probably had enough of stripping stuff down so just get another. Same as Mk3 Granada so there should be lots around & not worth more than £10. ;)

when the wipers are on they always park, but when i flick the wipers on for one sweep, they dont continue back off the screen, only while i have my finger on the stalk.. hope that makes sense, i have had a hard day!

just back in from the devils car... wipers, and everything else on the car working as normal.... i hate it when things fix themselves... only to break miles from nowhere, in the middle of the night, as is likely to happen with me....
