Title: Estate rear wiper replacement blade
Post by clivehenryjones on Nov 9th, 2005, 5:24pm
Hi, Asking for advice again....
Is the Scorpio Estate tailgate blade a unique dealer only item?
I usually buy my Ford parts from a FMD, as I work for Ford & get discount  ;D , but my local FMD had none in stock - I then went to a Motor Store and asked for one to fit my car - they consulted the Oracle and sold me a 13" wiper blade (Bosch).
It looks like the original item is fixed ONLY front and back by a small lip at the back (lower side) and a clip (of sorts - not very springy) at the front. The original aperture is MUCH smaller on the original blade as opposed to the aftermarket one - I don't think I can fit it this way.
Any suggestions?
Here are a few pics
1 Wiper attached to arm
2 Arm only
3 comparison of apertures

hi clive...
i currently have the bosch ones fitted to the front of the car with no problems at all,but i did have/use a slightly different connector to the one that you have used on your arm....

The finis no for a replacement blade is 1066488. The new one in your picture looks nothing like the correct one. Yes there is only the fitting method you describe and often the little 'springy bit' will snap off if you are not careful removing it as it seems to get brittle with age. I've modified mine with a fine drill and a split pin.

Craig - this is the tailgate blade not the front ones - it seems (and Simmo backs me up here) that it is a unique fitting. The blade is as is out of the box - there is a fitting kit of other plastic connectors but none to fit my car.
Simmo, I was afraid of that...if I order a part from my FMD, then my discount goes "Poof!!" :'(. Stillyou have to bite the bullet sometimes....
I guess your modification consists of drilling the arm & blade through and then split pinning them together?

Clive.

No.All you need to do is: look at your second photo. Drill a small hole straight through the 'springy' plastic bit (which looks like its lost its 'lip' as I said) into the first 'box'. Fit the blade, insert the split pin through the hole, open it out in the 'box' section to secure it and the head will stop the wiper blade falling off. ie it will replace the 'lip'. Works a treat!!.

Clive, Thats exactly it. If I was bright enough I'd have photographed mine !! but thank goodness you understood the 'script'. Hope it saves you a new blade.
