Title: Not a problem yet but how to avoid future problems Post by david_molloy on Nov 13th, 2005, 12:59am Hello All Not so much a problem but how to avoid them Just bought a very good 24v "N" scorpio and intend to do body work & full major mechanical service. "Unfortunately" buy came a bit soon ( but too good to miss) as I''ve a good Sierra 2.0EFI Auto with new winter tyres all around to take me to March 06 - poor Council service here- lots of ungritted main/back roads = plenty of minor bumps Coming to the point - I then intend to store it "over winter" in neighbours centrally heated garage. Any advice on "laying up" a Scorpio Don't want to disconnect battery for months only to cause problems later. Will be left unlocked with windows open so alarm wont be on. Wouldn't have thought it a problem but as CPU's / PATS & other complex electronics thought it best to check first. What's the views on starting up & running up to temp every month - worthwhile or a waste of time. Personally prefer to leave but never had such a "high tech" car before Any advice would be welcome thanks david |

Title: Re: Not a problem yet but how to avoid future prob Post by Snoopy on Nov 13th, 2005, 8:57am My own thoughts on "laying up" would be Put it up on Axle stands totake the weight of the bearings and spin the weels once a forthnight or so. make sure its all dry and starting up certainly will not do it any harm, providing it does reach correct operating temperatures. Change to engine oil and filter before " putting into hibernation" and when its dry and warm in the garge think about waxoyl the underside. Thats what I would do, but I am sure others will have advice as well. |

Title: Re: Not a problem yet but how to avoid future prob Post by mr._floppy on Nov 13th, 2005, 11:53am Storing on axle stands ( or blocks of wood, to spread the load ) is a good idea, makes it easier for inspection work and undersealing. Giving it a good startup every week or so stops water accumulating in the exhaust boxes. As it's a heated garage there's probably no point in protecting the brake discs from rust. |
