Title: Mobile Phone Antennas for the Ultima
Post by josswallace on Dec 3rd, 2005, 3:26pm
I have just bought a new Nokia 6230i and intend to get the CK-7W car kit which I want to use through the pop port and cradle.

I have been told that I should also install an antenna and know I have to buy the cable/coupler but can find no information at all on which is the best antenna to get.

I also know friends with Mercedes who can not fit a tax holder antenna because it interfers with the passenger side air bag.

Does any one know of any restrictions in this area for the Ultima and any info on what is the best antenna to buy would be appreciated.

I've got a tax holder antenna and it hasn't set the pax airbag off (yet)!
In fact, as far as the phone is concerned, it'll work perfectly well without one.  What the antenna does is to get most of the radiation from the phone to outside the car.  Running a mobile inside the car means it's got a semi-Farrady Cage to bounce the radiaition around within.  If you contribute to the idea that mobile phone radiation is harmful, fit an antenna for peace of mind. If you don't, then don't bother.

I also have a tax disc antenna for my Nokia 6310i as part of a fully hands-free kit. It improves signal strength where the signal would be too weak to register on the phone when not on its cradle. It has not interferred with the passenger airbag at all, and I have had the kit for 3 years. It is a neat solution to the signal strength problem and all the wires are hidden in the door frame trim, etc.

Cheers,

Neil W.
