Post by Silver_Poppy on Dec 10th, 2005, 3:31pm
Hello and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all.  Can anyone shed some light on this little concern for me ???.Got in my scorp this morning turned on the radio, got the sounds but nothing on the 'info display' yet the light comes on when switched on.  Everything works normally, volume, pre-sets etc. but no display.  I got no indication of anything going wrong, one day working and then not ???.  Can anyone help out with this one please.

S.P.

Or could be dampness at this time of year, remove the front panel and keep it in the house overnight somewhere it can dry out.

Yup, my display did not work at all when I got mine about a month ago. A couple of days ago, I had do do a fair few hours driving (the first since getting it) and the heater was going full blast. Later that day, the display peeped into life and has stayed on ever since. Defo linked to moisture. I think I will take it down and give it a good clean and dry out anyway, was going to get around to it at some point.

Problem now sorted after keeping the security bar in the house and leaving the car running on the drive for an hour (full heat setting) to slowly roast inside. Display now back to normal, many thanks for the advice gents :).  Frank, I cleaned my contacts by wiping them with methylated spirits on a clean cloth, both on the bar and the unit itself hope this does the trick on your unit.

I ended up getting another one.  Tried keeping it warm, drying it our in the house for a week, cleaning the contacts with switch cleaner and still it worked only when it wanted to :-/.  The "new" one has been fine :) :)

My radio gave  similar trouble recently,    I was in the habit of removing the panel  every night and    imaginatively    hiding it under the drivers sun visor     ( yeah, I know,   it  would be the first  place I would look too !! :P)   I've  since left it in place all the time and haven't  had any trouble from it yet.

That might be a cause too, mine are never off and never had a problem.
Do the people who are having the problem remove the panel regularly?
might just be the clip/spring slackening

Hi Highlander, apart from taking the bar off to dry it out the other day it hadn't been off at all because I know I'd lose it  :-/ if I put it somewhere safe.  Could this be just another quirky ford thingy :P.

When you take a drive stick on the Aircon and Recirc with heat on, and that should go someway to getting rid of any moisture causing probs.

I run with my aircon on most if not all of the time.. maybe thats helping.

The voice of doom here - I run with the aircon on, never remove it normally and mine still caused a problem :( :(

I bought a 5000 off e-bay to replace it but then a raft of security panels came onto e-bay so I bought one of those.  Has been fine since but as it used to work for months then fail for days then work for weeks again I'm not being complacent ;)
