Title: Wiper Park
Post by proberjohn on Dec 12th, 2005, 12:26pm
I changed the short wiper linkage today - the non-motor end was not a problem - in fact the new arm slipped on with ease which makes me think that the pivot pin is worn and that could do with renewing.

However the motor end was a problem and since I couln't get anything under the motor arm to press the joint on I decided to remove the motor arm.

On trying to undo the spline nut the arm moved around - I din't expect it to do that - and on checking I found that its new position had become the new park position!!  OK so I tried to move it back and it moved ok but although the park position moved back a bit it still wouldn't go back to the original one.

All this is not a problem  :-/ as I managed to remove the arm, press on the new linkage and reset the motor arm to the park position.

Question is ?what moved in the motor to affect the park position and should I strip the motor to tighten it up again?  Or should I just leave it all alone - it's a fiddly job to get the motor out.

The write up in the manual shows how I did everything wrong - "immobilise the arm".."don't press on the centre of the bearing"...."use pliers to press the bearing on". :-[  :-[
