Hi
HELP 1995 cosworth history-- speedo started to be erratic and then stopped i replaced vss with 2nd hand unit all was fine for about 2 weeks it then started to go erratic and finally stopped i have checked the wireing from vss to o/s inner wing and onto control unit all checked ok i have also checked for voltage at vss (battery voltage found) i have since replaced both the speedo and vss with known working units but it sill refuses to work
                help Thanks Grandad

This is syptomatic of the VSS failing, I would still suspect the VSS even though you have replaced the faulty unit with another ( although you state that was 2nd hand ) That could be the cause of the problem. If that is definitely in order then you have to look to the drive to the VSS which is mechanical worth checking that is being driven , but that needs the rear wheels to be off the ground.
Other that that check all the wiring going to and from the vss which is a monumental task... If you need wiring diagrams they are here ....... http://www.carsoft.ru/avtorepair/sierra_el.html

Good LUCK!

Dave,

It won't let you type That.i.s.!! The security on the forum thinks you are typing the name of a certain Ford software disc!!
