Title: New corrosion inhibitor??
Post by Wafoo on Dec 30th, 2005, 5:03pm
Well took the plugs out of the beast to check them and was shocked, stunned and more than a little amazed to see the plug holes swimming in oil!!!
Not just the odd one,all six!
Looks like I may have a slight leak from the rocker covers
Anyhow here's some photos of the plugs, what's the general opinion?

Think the gap on the plugs should be 1.1mm,these babies are about 2mm!

Would that cause the high CO emisions?

Hi !

My scorp spark plugs where black and burnt, the electrodes had been badly mishaped, distanced was about 1 mm.

Is the oil level going down on your engine ? that should explain the oil on plugs.

Mine doesn't consume oil at all, but plugs look bad and black.

If the gap is to big, then the engine will run bad, and yes the emissions will be bad.

Cheers and i hope it will help you a bit

Plugs are very important for emissions often people don't realise.
Yes it will cause high readings.

Plug holes full of oil usally it's water ;)

Well plugs regapped, cleaned, new filter in,lets hope it passes the emissions this time, seems a bit more oomph in the beast now and the tickovers better, perhaps an oil change as well to make trebly sure!

If you still have emission problems you may find a new set of good quality plugs will make even more difference.

Thanks for the help guys, off to the motorshop for new stuff it is then!
Plugs were changed on the last MOT and according to the handbook are the right ones, she's only done 6000 miles since the last MOT as well.
