Blower fan speed has mind of its own. when dial turned upto max (or any speed for that matter) the fan works ok but stops starts intermitantly and the speed seems to change by itself. And NO the dial is not at AUTO Sometimes i turn the duial to max and the fan blows at max, then stops, then starts, then stops and so on... Any suggestions and what parts i need? Cash waiting... ;D |

Title: Re: Blower Speed Post by locky on Dec 31st, 2005, 8:54pm Sounds like the HBC Module. They are prone to failing, what happens is they overheat and automatically switch off, once it cools down, it switches back on. And that's what you're getting. I recently purchased one from Ford finnis code 1017490 @ a cost of £90. Try this link too, it shows how to test, and what they look like. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/hbctest.htm HTH |

Title: Re: Blower Speed Post by Geoff_W on Jan 4th, 2006, 10:44pm Armatec, Probably not, however if you know somebody else with a Scorp with a HBC that is working see if you can swap HBCs with them to check it out if problem continues, you have a wiring fault. Other thing that you can do is check the fault codes, follow this link to find out how http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccreset.htm You will see it refers to codes like 01, 02, etc if you see a 51 or 52 etc that means the same thing. 07 or 57 indicates a possible HBC fault. Good luck, welcome and Happy New Year Geoff |

Title: Re: Blower Speed Post by Geoff_W on Jan 6th, 2006, 1:09am Kev, Looks like a HBC problem but having interrogated the codes got to 50 did you follow the rest of the instructions? If you carried out a reset it may behave for a while, the HBC tends to overload in hot situations when using continous fan, which is why Ford riveted an aluminium plate onto the bottom of it to help the heat sink. The only thing is that the HBC shown in the illustration (marked as 13) is the original version without the added plate. If you remove your existing one, easy job two cross point screws and three squeeze cable connectors and find that the HBC does not have the plate added you need a new one in any case. That is also probably why you are having the problem, that and a couple of hot summers ;) Geoff |

Title: Re: Blower Speed Post by Geoff_W on Jan 7th, 2006, 12:11am Sadly no Kev, I could do with a couple to play with to see if I can improve on the heat sink to reduce risk of failure. Anyway have you had chance to see if your HBC is one of the improved type? Geoff |
