Title: Accelerator cable Post by magnetono59 on Jan 4th, 2006, 7:59pm My accelerator cable is sticking while the engine is running. When the pedal is pressed it does not move immediately,it then moves with a jerk. The engine revs jump from 1000 revs to 3000 revs, causes problems with gear changes. It does not happen with the engine stopped. I have taken off the twin hoses to the throttle and sprayed the area with throttle cleaner, makes no difference. Any suggestions appreciated. On a different topic. I came across a suggestion for removing the rattle from the estate booth lid using a part from a Nokio phone. I cannot find it again . The estate is a 2Ltr 16V 1996. |

Title: Re: Accelerator cable Post by Simmo on Jan 5th, 2006, 9:42am The article on the estate tailgate is here http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/tailgate.htm. As for the cable problem if you have cruise control you will find the second cable attached to the throttle linkage and leading forward to the motor which is mounted on the offside of the radiator. If you disconnect that cable it would eliminate that as a cause or prove it as the case may be. I can't help re traction control as I don't have it on mine. |

Title: Re: Accelerator cable Post by magnetono59 on Jan 6th, 2006, 7:57pm My Scorpio estare is the Executive model so neither Cruse control or Traction control. According to the manual there is a throttle position sensor fitted on the extension of the throttle shaft nearest the engine. Could this item cause my problem. |

Title: Re: Accelerator cable Post by Octavian_P on Jan 6th, 2006, 8:02pm You are refering to the TPS, or throttle position sensor, the chances for that to stick it's verry low. Maybe the accelerator cable is sticking, maybe some WD40 in a few spots will help. |

Title: Re: Accelerator cable Post by magnetono59 on Jan 9th, 2006, 7:19pm I removed the accelerator cable from the quadrant and problem is still there. As I have said perfect before starting and sticky as soon as the engine is started. |
