Sorry to hear about that

Can you masure the voltage of the battery ? maybe the alternator isn't charging the battery properly.

I have tested batt and the car says 12v that reading was by the way of holding trip odo button in,will get a meter on it in the morning. The better half came and i tried a jump(the car that is)as she has a new batt also(must be that xmas batt thing i'll ask for some batts this xmas and save myself a fortune)but this did not work, will disconnect batt tomorrow and leave for modules to reset and see if this works,if it does will take to garage and see if they obd read.

12 Volts with the engine running ? if yes...then it's to low, it should have about 13.5 - 14.2

PS: also see if yor car doesn't draw to much current when sitting. (puddle lights, boot lights, door light, etc.)

Have just gone to get car and it started 1st time,so is this a case of it wont hot start?tested battery with engine running showed 13.9-14.2 so i assume that alternator is working.

You could let it on to get hot then try to restart it. If it doesen't start when hot then it must be something elese

Fault finding guide would suggest looking at the fuel pressure regulator. Have you checked that the large green relay in the fuse box next to the battery is not getting too hot? Worth a look I reckon.

Good luck

hi all, went to gillingham today(took the risk)90 mile round trip no problems, had it at a good speed on the way home smooth as a peach, left it for 20 mins after getting home then went and started it again 1st turn so all seems to be o.k,the speedo, rev dials have flicked round a couple of times but has still started first turn, volts to battery when running show 14.1,will check all suggestions and hope that all is well, many thanks Damon

hi there

if the dials are flicking, then the battery is suspect even if the voltage while running is 14.1. check the acid level or replace battery as some of the ecu functions shut down with low voltage levels.

Hello mate,

Sorry to here about your problems, I know how you feel because my car is behaving just the same. I have a 12v but the problem is the same. Today I changed the engine earth strap because it was quite corroded. I then started it up ( first turn of the key, no probs ) and backed out of the drive so I could back up to the garage to work in the boot. Still running fine.
I removed the plasic trim that covers the cut out switch. All the conections looked clean and dry. I even took the switch off and hit it so that it cut out. Then back in the car I turned the ignition on and listened for the fuel pump. I heard nothing so I pushed the red button in and tried again. With the button in I could hear the pump for a few seconds every time I keyed the ignition on so I would say the pump is running ok.
After this I locked the garage door and jumped in the car for a test drive, turned the key and guess what? 8loody thing wouden't start, it cranked ok but would not start.
I was going out with it today but we had to use the wifes Avensis!
I have already checked the fuel pump relay for damp and corrostion and it looked ok so tommorrow if its a nice day am going to check the compleat engine loom as it has been sugested on various threads on here that it could be a bad connection or brittle insulation some where.

Good luck with yours I hope you are up and running soon, Mike.

Sounds just like mine. The "solution" seemed to disconnect the battery for about an hour to reset everything.
The problem disappeared by itself after a while, just when I was going to start checking relays.
