Title: Wheel Arches
Post by Kenboy on Jan 11th, 2006, 12:16pm
Firstly      May I wish all a happy new year.
I should like to ask the members advice on how best to tackle, rust on wheel arches at the moment it is just the rear ones that are affected.
During the summer of last year I disked back to bare metal applied anti corrosion under coated and sprayed and all appeared ok but alas the rust has started to come back I am reluctant to take it to the professionals mainly because of costs and in my experience unless you pay mega bucks the rust still comes back I am not after a miracle cure but perhaps there is someone that has achieved good results and maybe pass on there  advice on how they achieved this I would be very grateful as to your sugggestions.

Happy New Year ;)

If the rust has come back then it looks as if the its coming through from underneath, you need to treat the inner arch or rim as well.

Somebody last year (OK you know who you are 8) talked about finding a similar problem and sprayed liberal amounts of what I think was Waxoyl behind the panel by taking off the catch at the back of the door well and spraying there and through that hole getting access to the inner rim.

It sounds like you need to sort that then do a strip to bare metal and the job may last a bit longer.

Good Luck

Geoff

Had rust on both back arches of 95 Scorp - not a lot but starting.
Best way to do it is axle stands - wheel off - liner out
You'll find road dirt between edge of liner and wheel arch
Will also be able to get round lip & treat from inside.
May as well "waxoyl" at same time
