Title: 2.3 Blue smoke and rattle
Post by Baw_Flinger on Jan 11th, 2006, 6:08pm
I was over taking a lorry today on a hill, when I was getting by him and checking through the rear mirror to check that I was clear, there was the biggest cloud of blue smike I have ever seen. I pulled off the road and it smoked again as I accelerated round the corner to a safe stopping place. when I got out and popped the lid, there was a very distinct rattle noise coming from the unit to the right of the engine in front of the EGR valve (sorry, dont know what this is). I pressed the pedal and took it up to about 2600-2700 revs and it gave me a nice puff of blue smoke out of the exaust. I turned off for 5 mins and then drove home but it seemed fine. No lack of power (was not pushing it!!) and although it was getting dark, I could not see any smoke.
I had just topped the oil up today as it was about 2mm from the low, stuck about a ltr in but it could be over full because I did not have time to check before driving off and my whole area is one massive hill.
Any ideas?? :(

Is this the first time you've noticed  a trail  of  blue smoke ?    does it use  a fair amount of oil  ?

Sounds  like  the symptoms  of  a  tired  and  worn  engine. :-[

This is the first time anything like this has happend. The receipts I have for the car state that it got a new engine (or recon £2700 worth) in late 2003.
???
I am just back from a 15 min spin and it seemed OK, no smoke. But then again I am taking it really easy.
