Just a thought.

is it poss to drain the autobox oil from the cooler pipes and refill through the Dipstick channel as a quick fix 'till i get it down to Glasgow for a Service?

Would the engine need to be running for this to work?(and oil pump in box running)

as a temp fix, i dont see why not, you will refill ATF through dipstick anyway, be carefull not to damage pipes though.
there is no need to have the engine running for this.

i doubt you will get all old oil out this way, but you will get most of it.
financially, it wont really benefit, as you need to change the filter when you do it properly, so you are effectivley costing yourself £40 in oil as a temp fix.

depends how desperatly you need this temp fix i guess?

p.s b4 you start, make sure you can reconnect pipes ok, or have spares etc.

Well reason i ask is 'cos i am going to replace the cooler pipes this wkend with my own made spec. (central heating Microbore actually)

Trying to figure best way to joint onto old pipes tho. lots of Head scratchin!

will do although i will just be equiped with a pipe-bending tool and purchase the Microbore from Wickes or B+Q.

Microbore is roughly same diameter as the Cooler Pipes anyway. The problem is attaching it to the old pipework at the Gearbox and the flexible pipes at the Cooler.

Jubilee Clips would be a bit unreliable as the pipes that would be clamped onto would be liable to become crushed. hence thats why the Ford method is to "swage" the two together. Very difficult to do this in home garage reliably though.

Will let u know how i get on and post or pm u pics when done.

FYI I had my oil cooler pipes replaced and they just use a normal jubilee clip to fix the rubber hose to the oil cooler . There is NOT a lot of pressure involved with the oil cooler, and a jubilee clip properly fitted should hold it especially if you bell the end of the pipe slightly before fitting.

I know some people have used hydraulic piping to replace the damaged section just cutting back to good metal pipe ... If you can get hydraulic pipe that would be the stuff to use .

advise not to use microbore, it has high copper content, vibration will work harden it very quickly & then fracture, most good motor factors will sell you a roll of steel pipe of the right diametre, or replace 'bad' sections with fuel hose or similar joined with hose clips, perfectly acceptable, negligable pressure in the cooler system, just a flow.

Used Hydraulic pipe for both mine, bought from pirtek, and jubilees , 2 of each on either end.
Held now for a good while and lost not a drop.

Total cost for both cars including fluid £35

I was wondering if a replaceable in-line filter ( like the see-through plastic paper element petrol ones ) on the exit or entrance to the auto fluid cooler would be possible, I was told the fluid pressure is fairly low at the cooler.

there might be an issue with the temp of the oil for an in-line filter setup. :-/

Yes it is poss to fit in line filter, best is the m/sport type remote filter head, just have to find somewhere to mount it, just takes a fairly standard oil filter, no pressure / temp problems.
