Title: wierd fault with charging light Post by cathouse on Jan 14th, 2006, 9:17pm Hi my charging light keeps coming on at irregular intervals. sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for 30 mins or so. the really strange thing is, if I put the dash display in test mode and check the battery voltage it doesn' t change. I drove 23 miles the other night, in the dark , in the rain, headlights full on, rear screen heater on and the charge light glowing and the voltage stayed at 13.7 all the way. does anyone have any ideas. cheers Roy |

Title: Re: wierd fault with charging light Post by SaveTheNight on Jan 14th, 2006, 9:22pm it isn't weird Roy ..it's pretty common .. ..one of the diodes in the alternator is weak and causes that fault .. you may be charging for months or years without problems ..the other diodes relate to charging and drain back ..both of those others will cause flat batteries .. it can of course be rectified but even then some reconditioning can still leave the same problem ..just keep a close eye on it and don't worry unless your charge rate does truly drop ... regards ....STN |
