Title: Bonnet Release and Front Grill
Post by MikeT on Jan 22nd, 2006, 8:44pm
:( :( :(

hi, folks,

Does anybody have a permanent fix for when the bonnet release bracket on the front grill breaks?

I'm quite suprised that on such a superb car, the bonnet release is tied into the front grill which is plastic.

I think that only a grill replace will sort it but I'm open to suggestions?

best regards to all

MikeT

Mine's broken on one side as well.  when I get around to it I was going to use a strap of Meccano!!

First of all welcome Mike ;D

In my case a cable tie holds the cable in the original bracket which cracked.

Can't be seen but I guess a new grille will sort this at some point  ;)

Thanks for the replies.  :)

I've been thinking overnight about a possible fix I hadn't considered.

It'll take a couple of weeks before I can get around to doing anything about it but it occured to me to use a metal (possibly aluminium) sheet cut to size and then shape to wrap around the existing bracket which is then glued into place using 1 ton epoxy.

I'm pretty certain this would be a very good method if it works to permanently strengthen the existing bracket or hold a broken one one in place.

let me know what you think... I hope I explained it okay

best regards

MikeT
