Post by David_South_West on Jan 29th, 2006, 10:26am
When the car is running voltage shows 13.7v...when engine stopped shows 12v and dials flick over when ignition turned on....tried charging battery overnight ,still only shows 12v .Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi there,

Looks like your battery is faulty. Fully charged the voltage should be 13 to 13.6 volts,( 6 times 2.2 volts per cell ). The ' flicking needles'  is a classic sign of this.

Had similar problems some time ago. My local Lucas depot supplied a new battery at a very good price.

Remember you will need your radio code if you disconnect the battery.

Hope you get sorted out soon.

Regards , Chris.

David,

just to add my tuppence worth, my 24v shows 12.2v with ignition on but engine not running, and 13.9v when idling. This is on the dashboard computer.

When measuring with a multimeter direct from the battery it is higher because nothing is turned on (i.e. the ignition).

Cheers
