I parked my 1995 Scorpio Ultima estate in the local supermarket and on my return could not open the car with a key or the remote fob. Calling the breakdown service was an expensive exercise in futility. Any helpful solutions?

Do you have access to any other keys for the car or have you tried that ?.If the key is worn it will lock the car but not unlock. Have you tried the passenger door and boot. The remote may well just have lost battery power. Do you use it all the time normally?.I take it it wouldn't open the tailgate either?. If you have a red key with the car that is usually the best bet as it probably hasn't been used for day to day use. Watch this space as one of the senior guys may be able to help further.

Sorry to hear that - there are one or two people on here who can tell you how to get into the car without causing any damage ;) They should be along shortly :D

Thanks for the quick responses. The key was worn out and I had only the one key. Had to get friend to smash drivers window and re-programme the remote fob. Remote working fine again. Waiting for replacement window and replacement key ordered! Thanks

half an hour persevering with some wd40 on the key and in the lock usually does it.

Its worth using the key now and again even if the remote is working

I did a link about this here a few weeks ago - Locked out

The red key unlocked the car (as I was about to break a window!!) and got us in.
Our local dealer ended up putting a new lock set in for good measure (the boot lock was seized anyway) as they wern't worn and reprograming the keys to the car. Not a really big job but fine since.

Drop me a line if you need further info and/or dealer info who sorted ours out.

Thank you Highlander and Ultima_stu, I will search for your article and remember all the good advice, seems a very good idea to keep using the key now and then!
