Title: Finally giving up!
Post by Wafoo on Jan 31st, 2006, 3:23pm
The beasts failed emissions again, had enougth now, thanks to everyone who helped over the past few months but it looks like New Cats required plus all the other bits that will probably be required over the coming months, had a good year with the beast but the expense is just to much.
So if anyone fancies it give me a shout.

Sorry to hear about that, but wouldn't a LPG conversion lessen the emissions ?

Thats a real shame.

And I was looking forward to us getting the cars together soon at the 'Ashford Mini-Meet'   :(

So is this just CATs and emissions stuff?
Is your engine still good?
From what I can remember from your photo the bodywork is good too.
Can't you take the plunge and fix it?   :-/

No,never got the scan done, couldn't find anywhere local ,but changed everything else, had a quote from ford direct for two cats, came in at over £800 which made me try and justify the repair, after a night of thinking, might put her on the drive and go for care and maintenance till I can get the enthusiasm to try and fix her, pity had a look at some other cars but they all seem so b****y awful compared to the Scorpio, but 20mpg and problem after problem took their toil.

Crikey mate, think you could get them for a fair bit cheaper than that - try Bill - member on here (SaveTheNight), his website is here:

http://powercraftengineering.com/

The site is being redeveloped at the mo but it has contact details on.

Actually he has a section on the trader sale section on here:

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/traders.htm

Click on Powercraft, go to the third page of parts are Cosworth cats are listed at £180 + Vat and fitting - worth a look I reckon.

Hope this helps  :)

By the way where are you roughly?

Update number 375!

Had a scan done, only code present was a P1260 which is theft detected, reset that and checked again, everything is sweet, all Ho2 sensors switching between rich and lean, fuelling in closed loop,as the guy said,it's a lovely motor, especially considering the mileage (173k),he seemed to think a thrash down the motorway would help as at the moment it only does 10 miles to and from work, hasn't had a good run for months.
Anyone any good ideas, looks like the cats, what they like to change, thanks to Stuart can get a couple of replacements scourced so maybe the beast will live a while longer.

Good man  ;)

I was reading an article on CATS a while ago and it said that they don't get warmed up and working effectively until you have done at least 5-6 miles of driving at reasonable speed. This figure can be up to 12-15 miles on a car with a big engine that doesn't have to work hard!

Might be an idea to take it 100 miles on the motorway to give it a run, you may well get through the test then.

Just a quick thought - how far did you drive the car before it had it emissions/MOT?
