Title: A little help please.....
Post by cello78 on Feb 6th, 2006, 10:24am
I own a 'N' plate 1995 Ford Scorpio 2.5td and on the whole I have no real problems with it whatsoever. However, recently a few problems have developed and im lost for ideas on what to try next. Firstly, I replaced all the pads and discs on the car and since then bringing the car to a stand still from slow speeds I get a serious vibration through the brake pedal as if the ABS has gone mental.

Secondly, I had the fuel reconditioned and even though it was reset according to the manufacturers spec, when you pull away, there is a serious drop in revs just over 1000rpm as if being starved of fuel or air then a sudden pick up as if the turbo has kicked in followed by a load of black smoke out the back. Also in third and fourth gear it is hunting at 1500rpm. It's never done that before.

And finally, I noticed that the number three head gastket has failed and water is seeping through. I am about to order a complete headgasket set but have been told that there three different thinknesses for the headgasket. How do I indentify which one I need?

Many thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum. The way to tell the thicknesses of the gaskets is by looking at the old ones to see how many little notches there are on the edge of them. There will either be none, 1, or 2, and they can be different thicknesses for each cylinder head so take note which gasket from which cylinder.

If the fuel system has been reconditioned have a look around the fuel filter to make sure that no air is getting into the system there causing the lack of power, try putting a latex rubber glove on the bottom of the filter as air could be leaking in around the O ring seal and if so would suck the glove in.

Matt
