Title: Re: hunting at idle Post by allenjames on Feb 7th, 2006, 8:15am I did take out the nearside AC Drain Tube the other day to clean the valve out. |

Title: Re: hunting at idle Post by allenjames on Feb 7th, 2006, 8:26am This is quite random when it happens. This morning, it fired up perfect and drove faultlessly to work. The first time I noticed it was after a 20 mile drive and then the car sat for 1 hour before restarting - hunting at idle for 2 mins - then was ok. Yesterday I drove to work, car was left for 4 hours. On the way home, hunting at idle for 2 mins - then was ok. I did overfill the oil the other day by about 1/2 litre. This has now been drained out to the correct level. |

Title: Re: hunting at idle Post by Baw_Flinger on Feb 7th, 2006, 9:19am Sounds like its doing what mine was a while back. Turned out my oil breather hose was torn but it could be any number of little things that may point to un-meter'd air getting into the system. Check round the whole bay for spits/cracks in anything to do with the airflow. Clean MAF, No1. Are you getting any odd intermitent rattles coming from the engine? |

Title: Re: hunting at idle Post by allenjames on Feb 7th, 2006, 11:03am engine runs sweet other than this intermittant hunting. will have a look round tonight and see what i can find. |

Title: Re: hunting at idle Post by Simmo on Feb 7th, 2006, 11:11am Have you checked the air filter?. There is a small pocket inside the filter box,at the rear, which has a small piece of foam rubber to catch the oily fumes from the breather. This frequently gets overlooked and could be saturated after an overfill, missing or disintegrated. The airflow passing over the MAF could be affected. |

Didnt know about that one. Just checked mine and its duff, breaks up when I touched it. May explain a few things that I have been happening. Does anyone know if this a ford stock item or what type of foam it is to make a new peice? |

Title: Re: hunting at idle Post by allenjames on Feb 7th, 2006, 8:16pm The frikken thing is running perfect since I posted the topic. Looked for the plugs - cant see them - I take it they are under the cover on the top of the engine. |

Title: Re: hunting at idle Post by Oliver on Feb 7th, 2006, 11:45pm Check the condition of the wires to the coil packs. The insulation becomes brittle and breaks away. It's a common problem with the 2.0 and a relatively easy fix. Another thing to check is that none of the plugs have worked loose. This happened a couple of times to me before I used a torque wrench to tighten them properly. |
