Title: Re: 24 v engine loom repair Post by caterex on Feb 19th, 2006, 11:51am Keith, During a cam change, I noticed the the flexable conduit in the vee of the engine hade been overheated and became brittle, I removed the conduit very easyily it just fell apart. I decided like you to replace the loom, after getting prices and availability of loom from Fords I decided to have a closer inspection. I removed the two multiplugs and exposed all cables (16 in each plug)a number of cables had their insulation cracked in a area of about 250mm. The cables were not damaged just the insulation cracked. I removed one cable at a time from plug end and passed 2mm shrinkable sleeving over each cable and used a pencil blow lamp to shrink sleeving. I replaced the conduit but to give more room in the vee I rerouted the brown plug via the bulkhead. It has worked for me, no problems in 8,000 miles. The red keepers mus be removed from the plugs before the pins will come out. Fred |

Title: Re: 24 v engine loom repair Post by caterex on Feb 20th, 2006, 11:05am Keith, Re plugs, When you turn the plugs around you will see three red bridges, remove one at a time, each bridge releases two lines of pins, turn the plug around, each pin is held in with a clip, use a small screw driver on clip and a bit of pressure on cable each one comes out quite easy, all cables are numbered and coloured. the cables that run to gearbox I cut and made a soldered joint using a brass slieve with little solder and doubled insulation. I use RS for all my electrical goods, a good postal service. I had to buy a roll of sleeving, so I have got plenty, may be able to arrange something. Use the sites wiring diagram. RS has a web page with all spares listed. Fred |
