Title: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by ritiavanne on Feb 19th, 2006, 7:03pm Greetings from Finland! I'm considering to buy Scorpio Cosworth estate '95 and I'm going to see&test it 02/25 so I have one week to get tips what to check and where to pay attention in that vehicle. I've already had one sedan with N3A engine and manual gears before so this BOB engine & A4LDE transmission are beyond my knowledge :-/ http://www.nettiauto.com/viewVehicle.php?id_car=616190&PN Link above shows the selling adv. and there is some pictures of car. One picture is taken from engine and shows cooling fan which is front of the radiator ??? I wonder is that original construction because I've only met double fans engine side. I would be very pleased for Your help and sorry my english, this is what's left since high 20yrs ago! Many thanks forehead... Pete |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by Paul B on Feb 19th, 2006, 7:13pm Hi. I think you're right - the fan is usually engine side of the rad. It looks different to mine as it doesn't have AirConditioning radiator in front of the main one either. |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by David_South_West on Feb 19th, 2006, 8:26pm Agree with Paul...if my memory serves me well that looks like a fan from a pre 95 granada...may be wrong! |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by Highlander on Feb 19th, 2006, 8:48pm I think there was some sort of cold weather option with the Scorpio as an option in colder climates, maybe something to do with that? Baz might be your man to ask |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by leftofcentre on Feb 20th, 2006, 12:56am Isnt that an after-market fan like what they sell on Demon Tweaks etc? |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by howiedintheplace on Feb 20th, 2006, 8:40am Hmmm well you can see it has not got aircon fitted & it has the basic heater setup. It should still have the twin fans engine side of the rad I would have thought? But why the big Granada Mk3 type aircon fan at the front ??? Strange. |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by ritiavanne on Feb 20th, 2006, 8:54am That Sco has aircon (and seller claims working properly) so this seeable fan associates to that... I think ??? This vehicle has been imported from Germany as used last year and has inspected (yearly basis in Finland) here so at least the emissions have been in those limits setted for low emission cars here. Seller says also there is service book which shows that services has been done in time and even in Ford -service. But who knows. It has driven about 150.000km so if those are truly kms it should be in good condition... I think again ??? Do U have any advices whereto pay exXxtra attention next saturday... pete |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by Dave on Feb 20th, 2006, 9:46am Maybe the air conditioning is retro fit? And the fan same? |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by Baz on Feb 20th, 2006, 10:49am If you can contact the seller and ask for the last 8 digits of the VIN number, that may shed some light on the issue. It may be a retro fan to increase airflow but I would have thought that may have been needed in warmer countries and although my geography isn't great, Finland isn't near the equator I don't think and sometimes additional cooling is employed on some diesels when towing, but this isn't a diesel nor has it got a towbar! If you can get the VIN we can see if it was a factory addition or an aftermarket one Baz |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by howiedintheplace on Feb 20th, 2006, 8:54pm It's got aircon ??? Is he sure ??? There is nothing in the engine bay to indicate it's fitted I can see??? Could be wrong thow as I need a better picture. |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by ritiavanne on Feb 21st, 2006, 8:25am Digits in plate top of rad are WFONXXGAGNRR45553 so those eight earlier were last ones ::) If Baz can get something out with these num. I would be very grateful ! And yeah, it has aircon(not automatic) and it works by heat setting knob(push/pull)... have to be some kind of poormans con.. ;) - suits for me }{ pete |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by ritiavanne on Feb 24th, 2006, 12:17pm Thanks for comments! I've solved the mystery of aircon. To be exact it works manually (no climate control) by heat selector and center knob (which selects air to come outside or circulate inner) have a litle A/C icon and turns aircon on or off by push&pull. What we see behind that huge fan is condenser and after that lies radiator with its douple fans. Is this why we came down from trees... ??? }{ Have a nice weekend, Pete |

Title: Re: Scorpio Cosworth cooling fan... Post by howiedintheplace on Feb 24th, 2006, 12:22pm It's very similar to the Mk3 set-up but that big fan is a different part, still can't make out the condenser rad thow :( Oh well aircon it is then :) |
