Title: Decrease odometer reading?
Post by JBjorling on Mar 1st, 2006, 10:47am
I have a question. How hard is it to set back the odometer reading?

I read somewhere thar Ford Scorpio are very appreciated import-items since it takes the odometer reading from an "external computer". I mean that it doesn't have a small memory in the instrument panel itself, so if you want a lower odometer reading you have to replace a lot of parts, rather than just the instrument panel.

Since Ford can perform software updates via the OBD2 outlet and there are diagnostic tools that can change computer parameters, it doesn't seem to far fetched that you are also able to change the odometer reading as long as you have the right software.

Does anyone know of any documents that describe the ECU and other such details in detail for the Ford Scorpio?

(Being a computer science student, I think that kind of stuff is a lot of fun)

EDIT:

Just to clarify; I don't intend to build a software that enables you to decrease the odometer reading. I want to see how easy it is to do so, to find out the possibility of someone else already done that.

Johan,

have a look at this thread, it talks about the mileage issue.
