bought a scorpio 2.9l 24v on saturday,no owners manual,have read the manual on here but its not clear.you have an"E"button..which is economy.."s"i take it is sport-should you hit this button before you drive off or can you hit it at any time when your driving along..any suggestions??this is my 1st automatic so any help would be great.robert

You can press 'S' at any time, just get ready to hang on ;)

Yes it does, it basically hangs on to gears longer and changes down more readily. Feels much more 'S'porty :)

Sports mode holds the revs between 4000 and 6000 while accelerating keeping you in the power band ;)

ive no idea what you meant highlander!!1too technical but im going to give it a bash!!is it really bad for your fuel consumption??

Of course it is! ;D

if you floor it in Sports mode the revs will rise to 6000, gear change will drop revs to 4000 so theres still plenty available power then rise to 6000 again before another change giving the maximum acceleration

Try it in E first then in S and you'll see the difference in the changes

Then try it with the O/D button engaged which removes top gear ;)

Oh and fill it up with petrol first ;D

The overdrive (o/d) button is where your thumb would naturally rest on the gear stick (below the chrome button). Pushing this will light a symbol on the dashboard and prevent the car from going into top (4th) gear. Useful for joining motorway, overtaking etc.

Green button on the drivers side of the gearstick, half way up, if you press it you remove 4th gear so its the same as leaving a manual in 3rd, higher revs, more available power than you would have at the same road speed in 4th gear

well thanks lads..im coming across as a right thicko..i did wonder what that was for...have driven manuals all my life...its going to take time to adapt...keep pressing the brake button to chg gears...oh dear...!!!

roger that..hands on wheel...asides from bringing it back from where i bought it(30miles away) havnt really had a chance to drive it,its missing its back headrests,no any1 in scotland with a couple??thanks..robert

the easyier way i find is to make sure u keep ya left hand on the wheel, then ya leg will stay put lol !!!!! just rember when u start up look for the p or the n lol the sports mode is a rather wicked sound lol ;) but keep an eye on ya petrol as if u decide u like sports mode best u will need a trailer full of petrol behind ya lol, we hve now come back to granada land with auto in the past we hve had mk1 mk2 s then went to the sensible mondeo for 3 yrs , and driving was never the same , and the scorpio ultima must still be one of the best cars around to drive its just a shame the bodies wernt built like a modeo ( naughty ford scorpio makers) they also did not make many 2.9 24v cosworth cars , so we need to look after em as it wont be long be 4 they are non excisting. good luck with urs ;)

Hi could not but smile upon reading-try bending your left leg so that it is partly under your seat and partly under your right leg that way its out of the way of the right leg.----then go no to the motorway with the box set on (e) when you reach 60 push the(S) botton this will lift the front end and start to push you in to your seat then hit the overdrive and hang on. have fun

Sod it,use your left leg for braking and right for acceleration,just like go karts,then turn the traction control off,drift it sideways round the corners and floor it in 's' mode!!!!!
Oh make sure the wife ain't in the car at the same time(wiping bruise on head from fist) they get jittery!!!

left leg for breaking??i wood go thru the windscreen!!!i think my rallying days are over,well so the women tells me...she says im not allowed "s" mode on...so that"ll be that then!!!you must be a good driver...??

You could always take the bulb out of the 's' button and she would be none the wiser to its engagement... Until you floor it that is ;) ;D Just make sure she doesn't see you push it.

bulb out the s button...i like the way you think!!hmm im going to drive sedate when shes in the car as shes a woos of a passenger..once shes out the car...yeeeehaaa!!its s mode time!!!what she dont know wont harm her...i will just have to remember to put it back in e mode before she uses it...the things we have to do eh??

"e" will automatically be selected when you restart the car.

if this is your first auto, make sure you left leg is tucked away, coz when you first boot a cossie, and the revvs get high enough, you will be tempted to engage the clutch, and you will find the brake pedal instead, you will then a complete ass, and the guy behind you wont be too happy either, sadly, im speeking from experience :o

MMmmmm, Going fast in a straight line is great in a Scorpio but negotiating corners is something the designers forgot about. ???

Pathetic power steering combined with soft springs make for eye popping cornering experiences in the Asda car park let alone anything over 35mph.

If you want the Scorp to do Jeremy Clarkson joyriding style cornering you're driving the wrong car.

Buy a Corsa. ;D

i quite like the power steering,bought it as a cruiser mr floppy not a street racer...big luxury pimpmobile,had a top spec calibra before..that could shift so am enjoying elbow out the window cruising now...im 6foot7,womens 6foot3..so this car was built for us..loads of room,quick and comfy...its braw..

Being so tall do you find that the electric driver's seat goes back far enough ?

At a modest 6ft I find I could do with a bit more room.

Despite its size I don’t think the Scorpio handles too badly at all, especially with a decent set of 225 profile tyres fitted. It all comes down to how well the driver can control the car when its on its limits, I can keep up with many a smaller supposedly more agile car going down the country lanes when I’m doing my rally driving, and with the back end out sliding round a corner the Scorpio certainly does it in more style than the little front wheel drive hatches under steering!

no,seats are fine mr floppy but ive only had the car5days..time will tell...your right mazzy j...car handles well and can shift...on saying that...just drove it and abs and traction light stayedon...is that bad??

um yeah. Means 1 or more sensor has reached the final chapter in its life :(

The sensor connections are prone to get dirty and show a fault, try cleaning them first

they are connected to the caliper area, the wires to them join by a multiplug, front ones are on the inner wing, just follow the wire :)

treat it a bit like you treat a woman, push down hard + she'll flip you on your back, hopefully without leaving too many skid marks :o
