Title: running a power cable from battery to dash, any adv
Post by whamburto on Mar 8th, 2006, 3:31pm
want to run a power cable from battery to independent amp in car, wheres the best place to run from inside bunnet to inside of car??saw cables underbattery that go thru a rubber hollow hole towards windscreen as you look from the front of car,is this the best option??

why the battery.... ???
if you remove the drivers side "cubby hole" on the right hand side just below the dash, you can pick up a permanent/ignition controlled live in behind there, there's plenty of them there...

personally i would snip them off and use scotch locks or something similar...

I would suggest avoiding scotchloks especially for heavy current items ,get the joints soldered ,and well insulated and if you arent sure about doing this get someone who is to help.i no longer have my scorpio ,but i had numerous wiring problems with the it ,to the point where some cables under dash actually melted ,as well as the dreaded engine loom probs that are well documented .make sure you get it right because in my experience the cables on these cars are not the best and if you overload them you do so at your peril,

hnnn, what to do??i appreciate what you are saying, definitely dont want melting wires or problems, not mechanical at all but managed to fit amp in old car via battery and squeezing thru a hole in bunnet..like the idea of craigs..clean and easy..its only a small 2oow power amp too a small subwoofer..wood that be ok considering i wont be over burdening it??any advice wood be great,thanks..

running a independent amp off your loom may be to much for wire
better to run a wire from battery go in behind glove box
i fitted a 800w kenwood amp to a 1200w subwoofer + a 240 amp to a 500w sub i used 60amp cable

ok,i like the running it from battery theory best as well, but you say run it from behind glove box?can you be more specific, the inbuilt amp is below glovebox and i need to be able to get the power cable from inside car to battery or vice versa...walk me thru it?not mechanically minded but if you could tell me exactly how to do it i will get there :P :thanks for replying....al this advice is great...good site...robert..

hope this helps  :o
remove battery cover behind battery left hand side you see a gromet with cables in it

the red cable is 60amps fitted with a 60 amp fuse as close to battery as you can

run cable in here by loom it comes out in back of glove box behind relay panel  open glove box & the drop down flap on roof of glove box you should see cable

remove n/s kick panel feed cable behind it then down side of car under trim by carpet all way to boot
i went under back seats to middle becuse my amp is on back of subwoofer

you will need to run a rc cable & a remote cable to amp from head unit try not to run them along side your power cable you mit pick up engine noise from power cable

i ran my earth from the  bolts of the boot lock latch
& rear seat belt mount
