Title: 24v Bodged cooling system
Post by Matt on Mar 13th, 2006, 7:02pm
Hey all

This is a little hard to explain with out pic so please bear with me

When I bought me cossie (1998 R reg facelift), I noticed that both alternator and a/c belts were well past their sell by dates, anyhows, while replacing the ac compressor belt, I noticed one of the cooling hoses had been blocked off (hose looks as if it been torn off from somewhere, then a cap made from a bit of gas piped shoved in the end and jubilee clipped up).

When running the car after replacing the belt, this blocked up bit began to leak (I think the ac belt tensioner disturbed it when I released it) so I popped out the cap in order to re-bodge the bodge for now, this was then I noticed the car had no coolant in the cooling system, only water)

The hose appears to come from the thermostat, if u look under the car near the passenger side front wheel, I can see a hose that comes from the rad, to the thermostat and this hose has a 'T' section in it and it looks as if the bodged bit is from the T (hard to tell with the ac compressor in the way)

I’ve tried the ford garage down the road and the only thing they could say was "it shouldn’t be blocked off” v.helpfull.

If any one knows what should be going on down there or if they could have a look at their cossie and tell me where this bodge hose should go, or if u even have the T section hose at all

Lucky, the dvla are taking their time sending me the new V5 for the car so IV been driving my Clio round for now and doing the jobs on the Scorpio while it’s in my garage and off the road. This is one job/problem that needs sorting before I think about taking it to work.

Oh dear mate

have you looked at the bottom of the radiator to see if it has ballooned?
does the car run hot/cold?

Call me drastic but in my opinion i would consider flogging your motor mate as if its been left to run hot, then major problems are waiting to apear + ultimayely, the cars going to fail on you mate.

perhaps other members on here wont be as doom + gloom as i am but best to be upfront.

The pipes from the Thermostat go to Rad, and to/from Heads if i remember rightly.
if one of em's blocked then part of the head isnt getting cooled.

Matt,

send me your email address and I will send you a picture of the coolant hoses so you can at least identify which one is cut and blocked
