Title: 7000RDS Fitting
Post by Spannerdemon on Mar 22nd, 2006, 4:12am
Just bought a 1996 Scorpio Ultima. It has a fairly basic Panasonic Radio/Cassette fitted and the Ford Auto changer in the boot. The Radio unit does not seem to support any kind of CD use, so I've bought a 7000RDS EON.

Any advice on fitting this would be handy. Any problems to look out for. I am assuming (at this atage)  that the wiring behind the present unit is still the Ford wiring.
I understand that I might need to upgrade the
RADIO INTERFACE MODULE. I've got hold of the most up to date one (with a blue edge). The one I have on the car at the moment has a yellow edge.
Will I need any extra wiring adaptors/connectors?

Any advice on fitting, or advice on where I might download a manual for this unit appreciated.
Many Thanks.

This page deals with the Radios.http://search.atomz.com/search/?sp-q=radio&sp-a=sp100172f5. and I'm sure there are members who will have the answers to your queries if they are not on the site.

Simmo.

Thanks for this. It will be a big help to me.

I'm always wary of touching things on a car before I have the information. I should be able to fit this myself, and have scheduled it for early next week when I next get some time off.

Thanks again. Much appreciated.  :D

You may need to find out what the car was originally fitted with (PM me you VIN and I will check for you) if it was the 2007 radio you will have to follow the instructions here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/radioupgrade.htm) as the old amp may still be fitted.

You can check this by looking at the cables behind the radio - but if depends how much it has been changed for the Panasonic - if the cd cable is still there it would not be connected to the cable for the radio if it was the original 7000. If it is a 2007 version you will need to replace the CD cable as per my write up!

The RIM for the 2007 worked on mine when I did the swap - PM me the part no and I can check that as well! ;)

Thanks guys for your help. It's very encouraging, as I've only just got the car, and don't have much idea about the sound systems in them.
Just had a look outside. Numbers are:

F: 02211T
VIN: WF0FXXGAGFSJ60125

Other Codes are:

GFR*BRG2*5A04

Hope this helps to ID the system wiring.
Radio is an "Ebay special"

Thanks for this. :)

Well according to your VIN it should have the 7000 series - so you should be home and dry!

Cheers

Dave. Thank you very much. that's brilliant news. I'm just awaiting the unit, and then I can get it fitted next week when I have some days off.

This has been a super introduction to the forums. Thank you to you all.
As I get to know the car, i hope to be able to not only ask questions, but also to help others.

Thanks Everybody.  :D

Unit arrived today, so I have been able to remove the old one (complete with all the adaptor loom which must have cost the last owner a few quid.

The new unit dropped straight in, with all the original plugs. Coded it, and everything works just like it should.

Really pleased.  Thanks to you all.  ;D ;D ;D
