A new piston and rings would probably get you running (and fix any damage to the bore) - but you need to find why it overheated in the first place otherwise it could happen again!

FWIW if you want to keep the same engine check the cooling system, turbo boost pressure and oil supply.  If you want to replace the engine then I believe the same one was fitted to the Rover 825D - though that is a FWD car so you'll need to swap a few bits over!

cooling problems are a pain. i had a similar problem with an engine with a aluminium head and the head was totaled. good luck tracing the problem.

If you do go for another engine i have a spare one i bought off ebay which was gonna put in my diesel estate which had a blown engine. But i'm thinking of breaking the car instead so the engine needs a new home. I paid £370 for it, was from a 97k mile car of 1997 vintage. Comes with turbo and everything. I have a trailer and can deliver it if required.

Thanks for help and advice given on above matter.
We have decided to change the engine to be on safe side, fortunately for us we already had another complete car so we have decided to break that for the engine.
