This last week i've just started to get a strong whiff of petrol fumes at start up.... car starts immediately as usual, and drives fine..... any ideas?

Check the connections to the roll Valve and also the EVAP Cannister Connections.

Mine does that thing sometimes.....when it's cold outside and it haven't been started for a few days.

PS: What is the "roll Valve" ???

is it located near the fuel tank filler?.... has it been known to fail?... is it electrically operated or is it a passive device?

I've recently noticed a petrol smell too. Whats this rollover valve do and where is it?

wow....how to make a simple job complicated... all that just to vent the tank >:(
I have never noticed that 'hiss' on opening the fuel cap?? have you?

In the old days a hiss on unscrewing the fuel cap was a sign that the petrol tank vent hose was blocked or kinked and this could cause fuel starvation to the carbs, Ah! Carbs, remember them ? :-/

The hiss on the Scorp is a helpful sign that all is well with the EVAP system .
