no not the wife, the noise is coming from the gearbox area i think, only when accellerating not when coasting, not that loud but it's there. is there something i should be doing soon that will cure it or is the end nigh !!!. thanks. oh yeah 96 2.9 12v auto 73000 miles ;)

hve you looked to see what level ya gear box oil is ? and what is the colour of it  ?
to rule that out first .
your millage  is quite low so it shouldent be any thing to nasty

Its possible the oil pump in the gear box you can hear. May be an oil and filter change will cure the problem. as the filter does get clogged and the pump has to work a bit harder , especially when its cold.
