Title: Strange behaviour when cold
Post by brewer on Mar 29th, 2006, 12:19pm
My 95 Cossie has a minor problem over the first 3 miles or so of a journey. It changes up late and with a jerk. The speedometer reads very low and then after a few minutes the needle begins to climb and from that point the car runs perfectly-the gear change is imperceptible and occurs when expected.
I hope (!!!) it's some sensor or setting problem , please can anybody help?
Thanks.

Have you cleaned the MAF?. Look here http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cleanmaf.htm.  If that has no effect look at this page   http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm for Transmission problems and the link to the VSS, which Highlander suggests, is there. It also mentions 'erratic'speedo.

Thanks. Brand new MAF last September - I'm loth to think that is the problem so I'll concentrate on VSS to begin with.

The fluid level only has to be slightly low to give the symptom you describe.
Before jumping in and changing anything, you should check the oil first.
