Noticed today with the rise in ambient temperature that I did not need the car heater up max but unfortunately when setting the dual climate controls to a more cooler, comfortable level I noticed that the teperature still blows at max. heat on the passenger side.

I have run the reset sequance severals times and this makes no difference.

What seemed to fix the problem before was when I changed the little black box that sits behind the dual climate control panel that is connected via the ribbon cable. This was just an old second-hand unit I had kicking around.

If this has gone again my question would be; how long are these supposed to last for? What would cause this to go faulty? Anyone done any repairs to the PCB board with any success?

Any comments on the heat problem also appreciated.

The SATC module does control the heat settings and if that is faulty then you will not be able to reset it correctly.. But it does sound as though it is NOT resetting properly... Have you tried discom=nectng the battery and then doing a reset when its reset EVERYTHING.

Otherwise its a case of trial and error... As far as the SATC unit failing I have heard of a couple going but not many.

OK, let me explain what happens when I run the reset:

After holding down the air recirc. and air con. buttons so the passenger side display reads '00', I then adjust readout to '50'. Initially it would not stay on '50', it kept changing to '57'?!?!

After three tries the system reamined on '50' so I then pressed the air recirc. button by itself. There were no real pop's and creaks to speak off (not like I've experienced before when it's done correctly), but it does sound like there is a faint whirring noise going on somewhere which seems to cycle repeatedly whithout ever stopping.

It's only when I press the air recirc. and air con. buttons together until the '00' appears again (after flashing) that I get the loud creaks and thumps of the system.

Well from how you describe it it sounds about right I get those sort of noises from mone when I reset it ... BUT 57 would seems to indicate a faulty HBC. others might know more than me .

OK, am not able to run the reset at all now; when I try the sequence and get to changing the digits on the passenger side display to 50, it changes instantly back to 57 so I am not able to run the reset.

Any exact data on this error code number?

Sounds like a faulty actuator for the passenger side air outlet - the CC module is likely to be sensing this and reporting the error - would also fit with your description of a whirring noise which is repeating over and over (presumably the actuator trying to move to the correct position).

If replacing the module cures it for a short time then it could be that the actuator is drawing too much current (i.e. whatever it moves is stiff or seized) and overloading the output of the module. I've not taken one apart but I'm guessing there is a power transistor or soldered fuse in the output stage which has blown.

If you can open up the old module and scan the PCB (both sides) then we might be able to identify what or where it has broke. In the meantime I suggest you find and check the actuator which controls passenger side temperature...

dont know it this will help you or not, but it just might.
ive (we)started stripping a 2.0 ultima, with climate (obviously) heat is excellent, aircon is spot on too. just removed the c/c panel (for a forum member), anyway, drove it the other day, (still t&t) with no c/c panel in it, and guess what, the default setting (so it seems) is to just pump hot air out!

it could well be you need another c/c panel.

I had a similar problem with code '57'. I suspected C/C panel (as blower seemed fine). My local breakers had one for £20 so I took a chance & bought it, shoved it in and reset it....problem fixed....no more fault codes

Personally I have my doubts on it being the C/C panel. Faulty actuator for the passenger side air outlet??? Do you mean the motor switches on the heater box? (there are four in all, two on each side).

I replaced the two on the passenger side already but I did feel that the paddle/flap for the rear motor switch was stiff at the time. Any way of lubricating this without having to pull the heater box out?

Plus I do not relish having to get to these motor switches again, that rear one is a complete nightmare.
