Title: Suspension rattle
Post by dingo-virgin on Apr 6th, 2006, 11:35am
Hi, I've been looking for the source of some rattling which I thought for some time was the exhaust. It's not a particularly bad or worrying rattle, just mostly noticed over rough ground.

I had a look underneath today and the only play I can find, is at each end of the anti-roll bar. Now please excuse my lack of  technical competence, but at each end of the bar is a small arm that connects the anti roll bar to a bracket on the front spring. The bottom joint on these arms seem fine but there seems to be a slight amount of play on both of the top joints when i rattle the anti roll bar really hard.

So, I presume this will be a worn bush on these joints? Is it  possible to replace the bush or does it require new arms?
Is it an easy job to do?
Is there any risk in driving the vehicle in the mean time with this bit of play?

Vehicle is a P- reg Scorpio Ghia Estate. 2.0l 16v Auto

Thanks
Tony

Just had a look at this job on the fault finding page, doesn't look too bad. (sorry should have searched first)

So my only remaning question is the urgency of geting this done.

thanks again
Tony

It's  easy  ( just two fixing  nuts )   if   the  nuts  and  bolts  can  be   persuaded to  play  ball   and   come  off  without   much   trouble.

Unfortunately some  posters have  had  to  hacksaw  the offending  nuts  ( Oooyah! ) :o

There's  a  few  anti-roll  bar   links on E-Bay  at the moment.
                    Good Luck.

Will give that a try, although it seems more like a clunking than a rattle :)

I was expecting to find a load of play in the shockers, wishbones or somewhere but the roll bar is the only bit I can find.

I even checked to make sure the jack & tools are secure in the back :)

I'll try shaking the cat when I'm next off though, thanks

If you are talking about the drop links then PARTCO do a pattern part for them and they are considerably cheaper that FMD.

Quote:
i'm just back in from replacing the n/s drop link. here are a few bits of advice....

the front drop links are availble from partco #0007754 (n/s). cost £14 +VAT (FMD £35+VAT).

you'll need a 17mm spanner, 15mm, 17mm & 19mm sockets. a small grinder is handy if the nut(s) is siezed on. Wink do both sides or you'll need a new tyre or two! Cry

about 30mins a side to do.
