Title: Help: little fellows eat up my cars
Post by pustagris on Apr 11th, 2006, 3:39pm
Hi,

I have two scorpio diesels.
Now I found this in the motor sections on both cars.

Between the battery and the motor is a kind of isolating shield. I think its a noise damper.
This wall seems to be good "construction material" for the little friends. (mice or squirells)
They transport the filling of this wall to the shield , which is above
the turbo/manifold and there they eat as well.( A lot of half eaten acorns.)
In the corner between the battery separation and the cover of the
shock absorbers they build. Its the same on both cars.
What to do? Buy a new separation wall ? How to protect it?
I would like to put a picture for you to see. But I do not know, how to get a picture into a message.

i heard a story from a mechanic friend of mine, of a couple who went on holiday, and on their return, the car wouldnt start.....

they called out the AA, who eventually towed the car into his garage, cause, unknown.....

my mate opened the airbox, and found it FULL to the top with acorns, nuts, and other debris.....

The 'little friends' had been using the air filter housing as a store room.

I cant think how to solve your problen, unless you park your car somewhere further away from where it usually is, and maybe they will find another adventure park to play in

Smear grease on the surfaces; it might put them off (or at list stick them there until you can eat them!)  ;D

An age old tip given to me once was that many animals don't like the smell of furniture polish  ::)

Maybe a squirt of that under the bonnet (carefully) would help  :)

A couple of mouse traps?........with a little bit of cheese on.......that's what Ford recommend.... 96p plus VAT each.....lol.
P.S. I use the bottom plastic part of an old hamster cage to drain my oil into.

I must say that tuffty has really gone down hill in his old age. When he lost all that safety awairness work in the 80's, he must of taken it hard. Now it seems he just spends all of his time getting smashed on drain water and out of his face on engine insulation. Sad, just sad.....
