Firstly, bear in mind I only picked up my Scorpio today.

When I test drove it about a fortnight ago, there was a fault with the electrics in the drivers seat and it was arranged that this would be fixed, which it was. It was also newly MOT'd.

When I collected it today, the airbag light was flashing. The seller said this was due to the seat having been removed and it would re-set itself shortly.

It hasn't done this. I have checked elsewhere on the site and the code (5 flashes) indicates that the driver's airbag has shorted. Additionally, the ABS light comes on above about 10mph, as does the traction control light.

Now the seller said that if there was any problem, to take it back and I'm sure he will fix it.

However, if it's some known common fault which is easy to fix, or if anyone has any suggestions as to whether these warnings are inter-related or separate, I'd be glad of their opinion.

I have checked fuse 27 (with a multimeter), and it is good.

If I understand it correctly, the ABS light would cause MOT failure, have I got that right?

Hi Vince,

basically, the ABS light coming on will cause a failure. Bear in mind that the car will be driven to the MOt station then probably switched off. The MOT chap will then start it up and move it into the MOT bay, very likely not going over 2 or 3 mph so the light would probably not be on for the test.

The fact that it comes on over 10mph along with the traction control light strongly suggests that the fault is dirty sensors at the rear wheels (they work for both abs and tc).

They are easy to clean, get the WD40 ready and have a read of this:

just a though has the mutiplug been plugged back in on the seat belt tensioner cos i remember this happening to me when i removed my seat to swap the leather over onto another seat i forgot to plug it back in worth checking you never know ;)

They both sound like logical ideas, I will take a look for a multiplug in the morning, where abouts exactly is it?
