Title: rear bearing replacement
Post by cossie_al on Apr 18th, 2006, 10:41pm
Although the bearings were apprently good enough for the mot man, they have made the odd squeek or two. So off I whent to get the new ones. followed the instructions from the main site but the hub will not seperate from the carrier. I unbolted them in one piece from the car and improvised a press using a three tun bottle jack and a steel frame. Not wanting to damage anything beyond being able to get the car on the wheals again, I did use a bit of caution but not a lot.
So have I missed something or have they over heated and welded the races in or some such thing ???
Any ideas greatly appreciated

When my rear o/s bearing went, it was still easy to pull the hub from the carrier even though the bearings were shot & parts had welded onto the hub.

It Might take a little force to get the HUB out of the carrier but not unduly, Try putting the HUB in the vice and using a peice of wood to protect the end on the hub hit it with a LARGE hammer . It may need a physical shock to release it . but I don't really think it should.

Some hot and cold water treatment may help as well
