Title: Tyre Pressure Post by Christopher_Dean on Apr 20th, 2006, 1:19pm The dreaded MoT is just around the corner and as part of my pre-MoT service my local garage recommended that I fit four new tyres. Some £260 later (Avon ZZ3 225/50 R16) I thought that I'd better check the tyre pressure. The manual states 29 psi for the front and 26 psi for the rear (under normal loading). I set the correct pressure (when the tyre was cold) using a digital pressure gauge but the tyres look a little under inflated. Am I being paranoid? Cheers Chris. |

Title: Re: Tyre Pressure Post by PeteB on Apr 20th, 2006, 1:30pm Mine too are the correct pressure and look a bit flat, I put it down to the sheer weight of the car. Shes a bit of a big girl after all ;D Pete |

Title: Re: Tyre Pressure Post by scorpio_man on Apr 20th, 2006, 1:48pm hi there i run 31 front, 29 rear. means you can run deeper into corners and the backend won't be quite as twitchy coming out! ;) hth |

Title: Re: Tyre Pressure Post by mr._floppy on Apr 20th, 2006, 1:52pm Ditto, at even 32 psi my fronts still look like they could do with a bit more puff, which maybe explains why the power steering is pathetic and hardly " Light " . |

Title: Re: Tyre Pressure Post by Octavian_P on Apr 20th, 2006, 2:16pm Underinflation also reduces the mpg. I keep mine at ~33 front and ~34 back |

Title: Re: Tyre Pressure Post by mazzy_j on Apr 20th, 2006, 2:48pm 34 at the back? Surely you would want a higher psi at the front because of the extra weight of the engine ??? I keep mine at 34psi at the front and 30psi at the back which seems to be a nice combo between bump absorbing and handling. Matt |

Title: Re: Tyre Pressure Post by Octavian_P on Apr 20th, 2006, 3:28pm The front is less inflated for better direction. The back has bigger pressure because sometimes i go on longer outside town trips and load the boot up with lots of stuff. |

Title: Re: Tyre Pressure Post by sector-9 on Apr 20th, 2006, 10:42pm [] IME manufacturer's tend to err on the soft side - presumably to give a more comfortable ride. My old Rover 414 specified about 28psi all round - only problem was that it wore the shoulders at that pressure. Eventually found 35psi to be about right for even wear. Darren |

Title: Re: Tyre Pressure Post by Scorpioen84 on Apr 20th, 2006, 11:43pm Does`nt the load index of the tyres deside this.? Normal cheap tyres have about 89... My summer tyres have a higher loadindex and they look right, but winter tyres have 89, and they look "flatt"(er)... ::) Just weeks before summertyres comes one again.! ;D (yeye, you GB guys dont have this problem... ;) ) |
