Title: just got it back ... buuuut
Post by bizzay1 on Apr 20th, 2006, 3:45pm
just picked mine up from the garage after having the head gasket done (s/hand head as well) and water pump and when I got home had a little rumbling from the cooling system, rang the garage and they say it may be an air lock, and have a look when cold at coolant level and top up if necessary.
The temp gauge did not go high.
Thought I would get my obd II code reader out and got 2 codes - P0340 which according to the book is the camshaft position sensor (fair enough just had the head off!) and P0117 Pd, the code relates to engine coolant temp circuit low input - but does that mean it should be reading higher on the scale ?? and what does the Pd at the end mean.
Your thoughts please gentlemen

hi there

what software are you using? VE from alex pepper (US)?

i'd clear the codes first.

then run the engine with the cap of for 20mins, gently reving it every now and again. do this with the temp at it's highest setting (HI or max).

I have a stand alone reader http://www.auteltech.com/code1.htm
I have cleared the codes as I expected some after the head being off, I will probably leave it now until tomorrow so that it is cold when I take the cap off, I will then try what you suggest and see how it goes, thanks

You could try this method which seems to have positive benefits.http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action=display;num=1142380998;start=15#15.

biz, what is your opinion of that code reader?  I've just ordered one as I think it'd be a useful tool to keep hold of and my parent's little Daewoo seems to hesitate sometimes when pulling away from junctions (the busier the junction the more likely it is to do it!).

I think it is a handy thing to have, I only paid £28 (inc Postage from USA) off of e-bay for it so wasn't a huge outlay, these are the first codes I've ever had but then I have only had the car for 2 months.

d**n, I paid full price on the website you gave the link for.  Didn't think to check on ebay >:(  Just hoping I'll get it though - doesn't mention anything about posting abroad on the website (or costs of) so I just paid the standard $9.99.  Still, a few pence over £40 isn't bad - as long as HMCE don't hit me for import duty as well!

RESULT (of sorts)Well, it was obvious to me when I filled it with water that I had a water leak, don't know how they missed it, BUT am I correct in thinking that the thermostat sits in the end of the inlet manifold ?? cos thats where the leak is - looks like the housing behind the thermostat which has a hose and a couple of connectors on it ??

Now the other thing I noticed is that it sounds very tappity with the bonnet up, so tried my code reader and got the code P0340 again (camshaft position sensor) - now does this mean that the camshaft is out of position ??
