Last year I had problems with the 7000 radio but got a replacement security panel from e-bay after which it has been fine.

The radio is normally on and just goes on and off with the ignition. Today, after going into town, it stayed on when I switched the ignition off and I couldn't get it to turn off at all. The radio button did nothing and it even stayed on when I removed the security panel!!! At this stage it wouldn't change volume or station or anything. After trying everything I was going to leave it playing and then it turned itself off!!!!

The thing has a mind of it's own ??? ???

the on/off switches have a habit of failing like this, new switch time :-/

Beeing at this subject i found out an interesting thing about my RDS 5000 unit. I have opened it for a project of mine, and found out inside a big capacitor that was blown. It's role was for powering the built in amplifier. After changeing that part the sound had becomed much better. So maybe beside the ON/OFF button that fails maybe there is something bad inside that unit. Visteon had some design flaws with this units, for main tension they have used 16V capacitors, and the car has somewhere of 14.4. As time passes by it's normal for that component to blow out.

Yeah, crap now innit?
His trouble is, he tries to be too 'wacky'. It aint working for me though. If they're going to have that sort of thing, they should stick it on at the weekend when I'm not listening... like they did with Dermot O'Dreary
