your petrol sound about right if most trips you do are shorter ones , i find sports mode sometimes help petrol as it dont change up and down all the time it use 3 gears but hold them longer , and i find the car a lot more eager so foot dont hve to hold down so far or for so long get lots of coasting in sports  lol often showing 99.1 mpg lol sorry i cant help you with ya other thing you want to know but some one  will soon tell you .

Re the gauges sitting at halfway it is a known problem, have a look at this:

As above, the fuel consumptions sounds about right. Always worth cleaning the MAF and idle valve. Fresh oil helps my mpg too!!

In English it means that the back of the dials short out sometimes and you have to remove a little bit of the solder to stop it from happening.  That's the easy part - getting the instrument cluster out is the fun part (and if you do, don't lay it face down!)

thanks scorpio-9 for the help,so to clarify the dials being stuck,is it doing the car any damage?only seems to stick in cold weather and within a hour or 2 its working normally again,i am not mechanical so is this a expensive fix or just more a nuisance??

It won't do the car any damage as such, the problem would be if you either ran out of petrol and didn't know about it or, more seriously, the car started to overheat as the gauge would still read normal  :o
