Title: Satelite Navigation & Athermic Glass Post by Chris Dean on Apr 27th, 2006, 9:32am Hi Guys, I've just bought a Navman iCN 520 Sat Nav system for the car. Whilst I'm waiting for it to arrive I've done the usual additional reading and it transpires that the system will not work if the car has 'Athermic Glass'. Athermic glass is heat repellent and will block/reduce the satellite signal. Does anyone know if the Scorpio was fitted with the type of glass? I've read through the user manual and cannot find anything. If it does have athermic glass I'll have to install an external antenna, not the end of he world but just something that I’d rather not do. Cheers Chris |

Title: Re: Satelite Navigation & Athermic Glass Post by craig on Apr 27th, 2006, 10:03am when i fitted my system,i found that the signal was ok through the rear window, but the windscreen was not brilliant because of the heating elements, however when the aerial was placed beside the sensor for the climate control (purple "thing" on drivers side of dash),this for me was the best place... Title: Re: Satelite Navigation & Athermic Glass Post by Zombie on Apr 27th, 2006, 7:08pm My Tom Tom PDA sat nav worked ok on my 2001 Mondeo that had a front heated windscreen (the shed) but my mates 1999 Focus heated windscreen seemed to block his receiver - he has to put it in the back window. It may just depend on the quality of the receiver. His was a cheap one from E-bay and mine is a proper Tom Tom one. I think Renaults have Athermic glass. High spec Alize Renault Megens and Lagunas have those windscreens that look a bit purplish. |

Title: Re: Satelite Navigation & Athermic Glass Post by invernessguy on Apr 28th, 2006, 3:36pm athermic glass is fitted to some relaults, peugeots, etc.... its obvious if its fitted, as the screen looks pinkish/purplish as you as driving towards them in the sunlight.... not a problem with the scorpio, but depending on the gps antenna, it may not 'see' through the heated screen donnie |
