Title: Connecting Handbrake  Cable
Post by mr._floppy on May 11th, 2006, 4:53pm
This has been discussed many times I'm sure but the , up to now ,   trouble free  fitting of  the  new   ( well second -hand )    rear caliper  has come to an impasse  due  to  the   impossibility  of   hooking  the  handbrake  cable on  to the  actuator arm   of  the   caliper  handbrake mechanism. The  hole in the cable end  ain't big enough to  fit over  the hook.............

 Am  I  thick   []   ( 6  O Levels I'll have you know :-* )  or  is  there  a   easy  solution  that  I've   overlooked ?

No, you aint thick - its an 'orrible job!
Really very difficult and frustrating   >:(

I think, in the end, the only way I could gain enough slack in the cable to do this was to have the caliper off both sides, basically so you can then manouvre the caliper onto the cable rather than the other way.

Pig of a job!  >:(

back the cable adjuster off to give you more slack.

Badly designed  components >:(  ,

What should be  a simple  10  minute job escalates  into  a  major procedure, not for me , I've not got the patience any more >:(,   so I took a  hacksaw  to the  hook on the actuator lever ,   took   about  5mm   off  the  point  of the hook so that the  "eyelet"   of the handbrake cable  fits over  it  but still  fits into the recess.
     Sorted! :-*
