Title: Battery removal
Post by Allen on May 14th, 2006, 9:09pm
At the risk of sounding completely thick could anyone tell me of what is going to happen to my 2.9 12 v electrically wise when i remove the battery to charge it.
The battery is fine its just that the car has been laid up for 2 months or so now and i've failed to run it periodically as i should have done, this has resulted in there being insufficient poke left in it to turn the motor quick enough to start it.
I'm most concerned about the likes of the immobiliser and alarm and the coded keys.
Any help would be most appreciated.

should be just the radio needing the code entering afterwards and she may run a bit rough until the computer gets it's bearings again

One touch raising of the driver's window usually gets lost too. That would also need resetting. Only takes a few seconds to do though.

Also, if you let the battery run right down, and I mean really flat, sometimes the remote fob can lose contact with the car. So that could need re-programming. That's not a common thing though.

Thanx for that people. not as dramatic as i thought it may be after all.
It was mentioned about the possibility of losing the 'one touch' return of the window and the ease of resetting it, could you tell me how i do that please.

Reprogram the window positions fully lower the window then press and hold the down button for 1 second, raise the window till closed and press and hold up button for 1 second.

There is a alternate method for not having to reprogram the windows, the radio code etc. There's needed a +12V power supply connected to a cigarette lighter. It will keep 12 V on the system so no reset. I did this on my car with an ups battery. Just care shuld be taken not to touch the positive battery lead with something elese after you get the car battery out.
